Protecting the world’s most threatened rainforests
Rainforests are more than a home for wildlife, they’re a life-support system for the entire planet, the Earth’s lungs. These vast ecosystems store carbon, regulate weather, and sustain the communities and species who live within them. Yet we lose an area of tropical forest roughly the size of a football pitch every six seconds.
For over 37 years, Rainforest Trust has been one of the world’s most effective defenders of tropical ecosystems. Their unique approach is as ambitious as it is practical: identify critical habitats, secure legal protection and empower local people to steward their lands for the long term.
Permanent protection, lasting change
Rainforest Trust works with trusted in-country partners to protect forests acre by acre, often in places where legal conservation is the only barrier standing between thriving ecosystems and irreversible destruction.
Their impact is staggering. To date, Rainforest Trust has safeguarded over 58 million acres of rainforest across six continents, locking in 8.66 billion tonnes of carbon and protecting more than 3,300 vulnerable species.
This is conservation on a planetary scale, achieved through partnerships rooted in respect and collaboration with Indigenous and local communities.
Why Rainforest Trust matters
Tropical forests are the planet’s greatest natural carbon sinks. Protecting them is one of the fastest, most cost-effective ways to fight climate change. But protection only works when it’s permanent – and that’s Rainforest Trust’s signature strength.
Their projects deliver legally recognised conservation areas that endure long after the initial funding. By empowering local communities, they ensure those protections hold in practice, not just on paper.
Every acre saved stores carbon, shelters biodiversity and sustains livelihoods. Every project is a shield for life itself.
Give through GRP
