Rainforest Alliance Highlights:
Building climate resilience through farming, forests, and people
Agriculture drives nearly 90% of global deforestation. Changing how food is grown and sourced is essential to securing a liveable future.
Rainforest Alliance offers a proven way to monitor sustainable, regenerative agriculture — combining certification, landscape restoration and corporate accountability – in the farms, forests, and communities that sustain the world’s food and natural resources.
A global nonprofit operating in more than 70 countries, Rainforest Alliance connects people and nature through practical solutions that build resilience from the ground up.
From cocoa farms in Ghana to coffee plantations in Colombia, it helps producers protect forests, improve livelihoods and strengthen supply chains against a changing climate.
Where sustainable farming meets global impact
Rainforest Alliance is best known for the green frog seal that marks responsibly produced goods around the world. But behind that symbol is an extraordinary network of farmers, foresters and companies transforming the way global commodities are grown and traded.
GRP funds the organisation’s regenerative agriculture program, for which Rainforest Alliance has recently released a seal to accompany the iconic green frog. This Regenerative Agriculture Seal (RAS) was developed through a blend of science, local knowledge and economic empowerment.
Farmers on RAS approved farms receive training in regenerative agriculture — methods that restore soil health, increase biodiversity and reduce the need for chemical inputs. These techniques help crops withstand drought, floods and pests while drawing carbon back into the ground.
By improving both productivity and sustainability, Rainforest Alliance’s work in regenerative agriculture makes conservation viable for people whose livelihoods depend on the land – and whole supply chains of people dependent upon agricultural production.
Why Rainforest Alliance matters
Rainforest Alliance’s impact stretches from individual farmers to international supply chains. By embedding sustainability into global markets, Rainforest Alliance tackles environmental and social challenges together:
- protecting biodiversity
- reducing emissions
- promoting gender equity
- improving incomes
For the Global Returns Project, this work fills a crucial space in the portfolio — one that bridges ecosystem protection and systemic change across the agricultural sector.
