Rainforest Alliance joins GRP’s charity portfolio for FY26

April 2, 2025

We’re delighted to announce that the Rainforest Alliance’s regenerative agriculture programme has officially joined the Global Returns Project’s charity portfolio for FY26.

Rainforest Alliance is our first partner focused on transforming global food systems—an area that is critical for addressing both climate change and biodiversity loss. This partnership reflects a growing consensus: nature-based climate solutions must include agriculture that not only avoids harm but actively restores degraded ecosystems.

“Agriculture that regenerates and heals the land is essential to solving the climate crisis. That’s why the Rainforest Alliance is thrilled to partner with the Global Returns Project—to help us all give more than we take.”— Gina Wood, Chief Development Officer, Rainforest Alliance

Since 1987, the Rainforest Alliance has worked with farmers around the world to make agriculture more sustainable. Today, they are going further partnering with farming communities to adopt regenerative practices that revitalise ecosystems, increase biodiversity and strengthen resilience to climate impacts.

This work is vital. Conventional agriculture accounts for nearly 24% of global greenhouse gas emissions and threatens more than 80% of species already at risk of extinction. Sustainable farming methods seek to reduce the harm done by practices like monocropping and heavy pesticide use. But regenerative agriculture goes further—it’s about healing land, rebuilding soil health, and adding to nature’s richness.

By implementing practices such as minimal tillage, intercropping, agroforestry and composting, regenerative farming transforms agriculture from a driver of environmental breakdown into a powerful climate solution. These methods help sequester carbon, retain water in the soil, and support thriving ecosystems, while improving farmer livelihoods.

A powerful example comes from Vietnam’s Central Highlands. After decades of monoculture coffee farming and heavy agrochemical use, farmer Trinh Tan Vinh began working with the Rainforest Alliance in 2008. With their training and support, he adopted regenerative methods—from growing shade trees to reducing chemical inputs. His farm is now a biodiverse, resilient ecosystem earning 40% more than neighbouring farms—and attracting visitors eager to learn from his success.

GRP is proud to support the Rainforest Alliance’s regenerative agriculture work exclusively. Our funding does not support the organisation’s certification programmes or other activities. This new addition of Rainforest Alliance, deepens GRP’s commitment to funding climate solutions that work—solutions that tackle systematic root causes, restore the natural world, and support the people who depend on it.
